Day 10 Tour de Fleece - Spinning A Rainbow

Day 10
Well today's short little Tour de Fleece spin was the start of this "Rainbow" 50/50 Superfine Merino/Mulberry Silk top that I got a chance to dye over the weekend.

It is so silky and squishy soft it justs wants to spin itself!
It is very fine though, so it might be a long spin, but a worthwhile one :-) The white Silky Merino is currently available in the shop and I'm hoping to get some more dyed this week, so keep an eye out for it!

Thanks for looking!

Tour de Fleece - Day 8 & 9

Day 8
I started to spin a "Snowflake" Deluxe batt today, but didn't quite get it all done.
Day 9
Today was a challenge day and I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do until my daughter decided for me. She was teething, so my goal became quite simply to finish the "Snowflake" Deluxe batt in between cuddles. It was a challenge! but I got there in the end! I'm leaving this one as a singles to make her some squishy finger less mitts.
I also managed to dye this in the process, so I thought I might spin this for Day 10 :-)
Happy spinning everyone!

Tour de Fleece - Day 6 & 7

It has been totally crazy in the studio over the last to days with lots of things happening, dye pots going (so keep your eye out for some yummy new things!), drum carder rolling and the wheels have been spinning too! So here is a quick "fly by" update :-)

Day 6
 Day 7
Lots more to come over the next 24hrs so stay tuned!
Happy Spinning!

Tour de Fleece - Day 5

Another day of successful spinning and more yummy handspun yarn! Now many who know me and follow my spinning will know I'm more of a purple and bright colours girl when it comes to choosing fibre to spin, but I really LOVE how this simple, yet natural coloured batt spun up. I simply love it and may yet spin some more! Now that is saying something!
Day 5

I have also been busy planning and working on something really exciting! But you will just have to wait till tomorrow to see what yummy things are going to be released soon in my shop! If I told you now it would spoil the secret ;-) Lol!

So happy spinning everyone!
Until tomorrow!

Tour de Fleece, Day 3 & 4 - The Spinning continues...

Another two days of the Tour de Fleece and the wheel, spindle and the drum carder have all been spinning! Here is a snapshot of the highlights :-)

Day 3
I continued on with a WIP Spin, "Love Sparkle" Rolags, only two left to go!

New heavenly soft "Snowflake" Deluxe Mini Batt, only superfine 17micron and finer fibres used, and some yummy Mulberry Silk! Now available in my shop :-)
Day 4
I was blending up some more of these "Cookies N Cream" Deluxe Mini Batts and I was loving it so much I just had to start spinning one :-)
Day 5 starts in just under 2 hours (yes it is nearly midnight here in Aus!) and there will be some other yummy fibrey things released tomorrow, along with an update on the spinning progress!

Happy Spinning!
Liz :-)

Thank you everyone for your continued support!

Tour de Fleece - Day 2

Day two of the Toure de Fleece and the blending and spinning continues! New "Pixie" Deluxe Mini Batts are to just stunning!

A quick spin and the batt was turned into some delicious singles, ready for plying.

But what to ply it with? it just goes to show how important picking a plying thread is. I experimented with a purple metallic thread, a variegated green metallic thread and also plying it back on itself. It was amazing how different the 3 mini skeins turned out!

Once that was finished I was itching for some more, so I spun up some more of the "Silver Wool Blend" so I could finish plying my "Passion" spin I started just over a year ago!

Another productive day blending and spinning away! I can't wait to see what gets created tomorrow!

Happy Spinning everyone!

Ready, Set, Spin! - Day 1 of Tour de Fleece!

It is that exciting time of year again and the TdF is here! With so much excitement on Ravelry, I couldn't help but jump in and start spinning. To kick off day one I blended up some "Choc Caramel Cream" batts! Excited to make these, I sat down and spun one up to warm the wheel up for the marathon ahead. I wonder how much yarn there will be in the end? So come spin with me!

Happy Spinning!

Crafting Through Loss...

I know it has been a few months since I last wrote about the exciting crafting that has been happening here in the studio. The reason being, in this such short space of time I have lost two close family members. While any loss is a difficult journey, two in a short 3 months has been an even harder one. But despite this rocky road there has always been one thing that has helped me through - my craft work!

I have managed to knit my way through some more squares on my slow growing blanket for my daughter , who will soon be turning one. I've dyed, blended and spun my way through fibre into yarn. I have also made a memory quilt, with some help cutting out the squares from a friend, and I found sewing this blanket one of the hardest thing I have made, yet a very therapeutic sew that helped immensely with the grieving process.
I might still be adjusting to life, now that everything has changed as it does after loss, but there are exciting new things happening in the studio!

I have a brand new line of Coloured Merino Top and it is a dream to spin! I am very excited about this new Merino top and it comes in 11 exciting colours! Now available in my shop.
There are also the new batts, rolags, yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks, and plenty still to come! So please feel free to have a browse and message me if you have any questions.

Thanks for looking!

Crafting 365 - Knitting, Spinning And Fibre!

The fact that it has been over two weeks since I last posted just goes to show that life has been crazy, in both the sense of crafting, dyeing and blending, and a little Monkey occupying the remainder of my spare time (Wasn't sleep overrated?). So I've given in to the fact that my wishes for weekly updates on the progress of my Craft 365 Challenge are more likely to be be 2 weekly twice a month (and hopefully not longer! Here's having my fingers crossed on that one!). So here is my progress for the second half of January :) Lots of photo's and links back to my shop for those items that are available for purchase.

Day 15
More "Frozen" spinning

Day 16
I finally managed to wash and dry the skein that I plied at the beginning of the month. It wasn't much today, but it was something and it had to be done!

Day 17
A pink square

Day 18
Another lot of rainbow alpaca

Day 19
A little more progress on my wheel spinning. I'm thinking I might try a different wheel at this point the spin isn't as smooth as I would like...

Day 20
I didn't get much time today, but I did manage to start a variegated blue square on my blanket. Hopefully I'll finish at least this square before the end of the month!

Day 21
More of my "Frozen" spinning

Day 22
More rainbow Alpaca and Superfine Merino - this lot is destined for batts! ;-)

Day 25
"Deep Ocean" Deluxe Mini Batt
"Deep Ocean" Deluxe Rolags
Day 26
I continued spinning my wheel spin on a different wheel today and I'm much happier with the feel of the spin and the progress

Day 27
More spinning... I only started with a single 50g batt at the beginning of the month and I'm determined to finish it!

Day 30
I finished the Blue Square!
Day 31
I Finished my "Frozen" Spin!! It has been so rewarding to finish a spin in a month, something I haven't been able to do for over a year!

So far I have managed to be able to craft everyday for an entire month! I am both amazed that a little person allowed me to manage to do this and that no matter what I always managed to find a tiny bit of Mummy Crafting time :-) I wonder what the next month has in store!

Happy Crafting!
