Silk, Spindles & A Mystery Box of Fibre

By now I have come to the realisation that I now can't seem to stay away from the dye pot as I continually want to go and play with the colours :) this should come as no surprise, as you will clearly see.

So, I had some fun experimenting and playing yet again with the colours in the dye pot over the last couple of days, and after a final rinse and dry I now have some vibrant coloured silk hankies and silk sheets.

These will soon be available in my Shop, via the tab above.

The other thing that I can't seem to keep away from are my spindles. As a spindle addict it should therefore come as no surprise that the postie dropped another parcel off today that contained, you guessed it, some more yummy spindles :)
They are, left to right:
  • Russan Support, Wenge, 63.8gms
  • Drop Spindel, Terpentine Gum with Spalted Tamarind whorl, Rock Maple shaft, 22.7gm
  • Drop Spindel, Banksia whorl, Jarrah shaft, 25.2gms
  • Drop Spindles, Purple Heart whorl, Padauk shaft, 30.2gm
  • Tibetan Pu Yok, Banksia Nut whorl, Australian Jarrah shaft, 37gm
  • Lap Support Bowl, Queensland Maple with Acrylic insert, 16.5cm high
Aren't they just divine :) a few of these might make into the Lonely Spindle Challenge on Ravelry, because they have traveled so far down the coast that they are feeling lonely :) I already have two spindles ready for the challenge, and it should be no surprise that they are Turkish Spindles.
The other thing you should know about the Lonely Spindle Challenge, is that I am donating a Mystery Box of Fibres as the second prize :) This is what has been revealed so far...
Keep checking back to see what else is in the box and follow the challenge on Ravelry in the Yarn Therapy Zone :)

Happy Crafting! :)

A crazy couple of weeks

It has been a really crazy couple of weeks. I have done so much that I haven't even had a chance to stop and take five to make a cuppa and sit down and write a long over due post for my blog. So I shall try and quickly run through everything I have done :)
So I have added another spindle to my monthly spins. This one is using my new Hand Painted Alpaca.
These are some of my new Alpaca and Merino braids that are now available in the shop.
I have started another shawl using my hand spun Alpaca. Click on the Ravelry tab above to see the full details :)
Some more new spindles to join the FWA Family :) The phang at the bottom of the first photo is from a previous round, but was a distraction spin all the same :) The box with the two larg turks and the Merino fluff is for the spinning challenges next month.
I finished a spinning and plying a skein on my wheel, something I haven't done in a while as i have been too busy spindle spinning :)
I have just finished the first spindle spun skein out of my total goal of 5 skeins.
The newest batch of Hand Painted Alpaca braids to celebrate Easter. These are now also available in my shop via the tab above.
And finally, my first attempt at making fauxlags :) They were very quick to make, very hard to stop, and they do spin up nicely :)
This is where I'm up to with my Bitterroot shawl :) growing quickly now that I've got the hang of it.
And finally I have started and finished a scarf :)

Phew! I'm sure I've missed a couple of things, but hey, I've been busy :) And I have some more yummy new fibres to come in my shop to go with the lovely Bamboo silk and Cotton :) Happy crafting!

A New Month Of Possibilities...

It is the start of another new month and the year feels like it is flying already :) I have been hunting around on Ravelry, for all the new monthly challenges to be posted. So I thought I would kick start here and give you a sneek peek at what I plan to spindle spin this month :)

There are four spindles on my hit list for this month, my 3 new spindle club spindles and a slightly neglected Turk.
I am spinning some of my hand dyed merino, my Hand dyed alpaca, My hand combed natural wool merino X and A lovely braid from Ixchelbunny called "Gaga! Bunny". I'm sure there will be other spinning projects to come because I can't seem to spin enough at the moment :)
Also watch this space for an update in my etsy shop on the New Hand Dyed Alpaca and Merino Braids that are for sale. Click the "Shop" tab above to see what is currently available :) Happy crafting! :)
