A Blending Experiment...

I have been looking at my hand dyed fibres of late and have often though how nice two fibres would be together. A friend of mine on Ravelry sent me a message with and idea and from there the experiment was born. So I dug out the drum carder, layed out my fibres and started to play. I'm liking the results so far.

Experiment 1: Hand Dyed Merino & White Bamboo
I did two slightly different Batts, One with 5M:1B (left) and then one 4M:1B (right)
This is the Hand spun of the 4M:1B I quite like it...

Experiment 2: Merino & White Bamboo
This time I tried pre-carding the bamboo and then I made the batt...

Experiment 3: Alpaca & White Bamboo
I really liked this one and I found it really easy to get a smoother singles & yarn.
 Isn't it yummy?

Experiment 4: Merino & Silk Hankie & Silk Pencil Roving
This was an very interesting batt to make and this one I carded twice for something a bit different...
I love this finished yarn, but I don't think I will try the silk hankies again in a batt! :)

Experiment 5: Merino, Alpaca & Silk Pencil Roving
This white batt (right) was a few blendings but I really love this one :) I might try dyeing this batt and see what happens, but that is for another day :)
Very subtle shine in this yarn, yummy :)

Comparison yarns from the batts :)

That was fun :) Check back next time to see what I experiment with next :) Happy crafting!

Spinning, A Shawl & A Wrap

It has once again been a bit crazy in the studio of late with many things flying in all directions and a few internet problems to throw into the mix. I have been making some progress though if various things so here is another update on what I've been up to on Ravelry.

I have managed to Finish my first Shawl and completed another thing in my goal of 14 projects in 2014 in the Yarn Therapy Zone.
I have been doing a heap of spindle spinning for the May Spinning Club, The Thick or Thin Challenge and the Lonely Spindle Challenge...
...with another FWAussie Spindle joining in on the fun :)
I have also been spinning my "Tinkerbell" Braid up for the once upon a time challenge...
This braid has been so popular that I have now created the Liz Green Arts "Twisted Sister" braids, with two fibres in one. A couple of pre-twisted braids are now available in the shop (via the tab above) but you can also create your own "Twisted Sister" from the fibres available :) Just email or pm me your personal fibre combination :)

Another new spindle has come to join my ever growing spindle family. This one was a little lonely in a de-stash thread on Ravelry, but is now very happy in her new home.
I have also started spinning the yarn for my next Spin a Shawl...
And finally I have been crocheting again and I am working up a wrap for a special friend for her Birthday :)
It has been a busy two week, but a very productive two weeks. Well the dye pot is on, the sun is still shinning and my spindles are call for my attention, so Happy Crafting! :)

Busy Spinning :)

So the end of April has been and gone and May has well and truely started without me :)

My finished April Spindle spun Skeins...
I also finished a scarf...
The mystery box of fibres has now been revealed for the Lonely Spindle Competition on Ravelry...
And I have started my may spindle spinning...
Phew! Lots happening and more to come later :) Happy crafting! :)
